When the Association was first established in 1919, its members oiled and tarred textiles to waterproof them and important end-products included coal sacks, cart covers and horse-clothing. Since then, technological advances, the decline of some industries and the growth of others, along with the development of flame retardancy standards, have changed the face of the Association and its membership profile. MUTA and its members remain on the cutting edge of the technical and performance textiles industry.
Textiles are not just used for clothes – technical fabrics are used in all walks of life, so our industry has an incredibly diverse customer base. MUTA represents companies supplying and manufacturing textile products for use in military aircraft, operating theatres, tennis courts, marquees and haulage vehicles.

Why you should join the Association
As a member of MUTA you would enhance your reputation in the marketplace, gain the opportunity to reach thousands of potential customers through listing on our website and in the annual Buyers Guide, and receive discounts on exhibiting at industry shows.
In addition, you would add your voice to the only trade association representing the UK technical and performance textiles sector. In an industry that is constantly being affected by new developments in standardisation and regulation, the need for a unified voice is essential. By joining MUTA, your views on new rules and regulations will feed into the Association’s responses to consultations and our representation on committees.
In recent years, the Association has been involved in implementing the EU’s REACH regulations which affect our fabric coating members, developing European standards in Reusable Healthcare Textiles and being consulted on changes to EU marketing rules.
As a member you would be expected to comply with our code of practice
